I’m wondering if anyone else deals with this. When it comes to doing an all out sprint, I feel like I have to be careful. I can push it up to probably 95-98 percent of my absolute top speed with no problem. But if I push it to the point where I absolutely can’t run any faster, that’s when problems tend to happen. In most cases, I end up hurt. Not seriously hurt, but enough that I might have to skip a run or two.

Can anyone else relate? I’m guessing that the more you run in the zone 5 area, the faster you can safely run. Does anyone know if this is the case?

I good rule of thumb in training to only go to about 95% on max efforts particularly for running. For the reasons you mentioned – risk/reward..you are getting the training outcome with that 95% – going any further has risks that outweigh the rewards.
