Looking forward to the upcoming long training days and the weather has me wondering if I should make any adjustments. I’m in the northeast and tenps wth be 95-105 with humidity throughout the weekend. I am 4 weeks out from my full IM (Mont Tremblant) which isn’t typically a hot weather event. Should I be adjusting my plan (level 2 power/power) to compensate for the heat wave? I think I can manage the workouts but I don’t want to over do it either.

    Hi Jabba96,
Increase in temperature can absolutely impact your training, but also your recovery so it is worth adapting your training program if hot temperatures are on the forecast.
First thing to remember is that you will need to slow down – and that heat will have an impact on your pace for running in particular.
Start early, and watch the humidity – ensure you are well hydrated before you start and have hydration with you, and adjust your pace to ensure you don’t overdo things or get overheated. You can have an up to 20% reduction in pace when the temps start to get over 80 (26c).
