Hello, currently on full distance lvl 3 plan from the book and my main event is on august 7, so Im on the final stretch. Everything went as planned and I was eager to train until 2 weeks ago when the heat wave arrived. Constant high temperature meant that training was torture and sleep was bad and eating was also basically replaced with consuming liquids to stay alive. I’ve moved my bike sessions indoor away from the sun and most of the runs have been skipped or shortened.
Now Im in a position where I have a month until my main event and I dont like training, no appetite and exhausted from the heat. Is there still hope to salvage something? I dont feel yet overtrained and power numbers are solid, but it feels like squeezing water out of a rock.

There is plenty of reason for hope. Forget the plan from here on. You need to do whatever amount and types of training you can be motivated to do and enjoy doing and that’s it. If that means taking a month off, well then, you’re screwed! But if you genuinely do want to do more than zero, then just try to get the most you can out of the training you want to do. Think of it as a very long taper. A surprising amount of fitness can be preserved on low volume if you are at least consistent and you keep high-intensity work in the mix. Don’t put any pressure on yourself, trust the science, and really allow yourself to be led by motivation and enjoyment and you’ll be okay.

Thank You for the answer. Will try to do something fun this week ( maybe even take part in some small zwift races). Next week is an easy one, and maybe that will return the will to train. I will not drop the plan right away, will decide at the end of next week if I can/should do the last hard week before taper.
