I’ve been training for a half marathon around the end of November. Long story, but I’m not going to be able to do that one. There aren’t too many options that work with my schedule, so I’m just picking up a Thanksgiving Day 10K instead. My training has obviously been more geared towards the half, but there’s still been a good amount of tempo and speed work.

Would you recommend doing a 10K time trial this week? Or would it be better just to do the 10K training runs between now and then? I do have a 5 mile run (3 weeks ago) at my goal pace and I finished feeling like there was more in the tank. So I think I have a pretty good idea of what I could do. Just wondering about your opinion on this. Thanks!

The 10K plan’s workouts will do the trick, but if you like you can swap in a relaxed 10K time trial. This is a 10K run at goal pace minute 5 percent. That’s close enough to all-out to give you a good sense of how fit you are yet far enough from al-out that it won’t wreck you.

Thanks! Would you jump in at week 9? It looks like that’s a cutback week.

It depends on how recent my last down week was. If I’d just had one, I’d probably start at Week 8 and then jump ahead to Week 10.
