    Hi there all

I am 13 weeks out from my first marathon and decided to try a half marathon as much for the experience as anything else – not trying to run fastest half pace – just stick to the training plan (in practice I’m sure the excitement will get me going faster than a normal long run pace). The half is 4 weeks away and falls into the ‘wrong’ week of my Marathon 0 plan – it’s the nominal rest week where my long run is only 10km. The week after is a long run (21km) so I was looking for ideas.

Should I take most of the ‘rest week’ and add a slight taper and then do the half – i.e. only swap the two long runs over (10k then 21k becomes 21k then 10k)?

Or should I swap the whole weeks over?

    Or some other combination?

    Ideas welcomed.

    Regards
    Richard

    Hi there,
So you will be in week 9 of the marathon plan. You should be fine doing that half marathon if you stick with it being a Zone 2 run and only picking up the pace if feeling good in the last 2 miles. On that week, minor adjustments I would recommend is shifting the hill repeat run to Tuesday, shifting the Fartlek run to Thursday, Friday day off, reduce RF24 down to 20mins only.

    Cheers
