I’m looking to commute to work 5 days a week by running about 1.5 miles one way. Should I put these into my plan, maybe just do the commute Z1 and not add it in, or maybe just not worry about it at all as part of my training? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    J,

This is one of the top 10 questions I’m answered. I love it being asked for several reasons. It demonstrates how detailed triathletes are, it demonstrates how efficient they want to be, and it is better for the environment!

The answer always varies based on the details. In your case, it looks to be about 12 minutes each way, 24 minutes a day, 2 hours a week. That’s too much to ignore, especially for running. I’d count it for sure as part of your overall “easy” for the week and shave off 10 minutes from bike and run warmups and cool-downs to compensate. It does not have to be exactly 2 hours removed, but at least an hour, or half, of the extra running you are doing.
