How to Determine Aerobic Threshold – LT1

    Is there a field test to determine LT1 or does it have to be tested in a lab? Also, how important is it to test for LT1? In the 80/20 world we only seem to test for LT2 so I’m thinking it’s not that important to do.





    LT2 is your Lactate Threshold and the second marker and the point where lactate levels start to increase dramatically.  Once you have reached your LT2, you’re producing lactate much faster than your body can process, therefore we watch and test for that marker.  LT1 is close to your marathon or half marathon pace.

    Our field test protocol is the best way to test for LT2 simply because we are basing zones off of that top number.  LT1 falls below and into the 80% of the work we do following the 80/20 intensity.
