The later into the calendar year you can push your first event, the more likely you’ll be able to compete. Because your IM event is so late in the year, you can afford a May or June event. Also, a May or June event gives you the option for a February or March event (in a best-case scenario). Even if that Feb or March event is a virtual half or full marathon, it stretches out the year to allow for the possibility of 3 solid A races over the next 12 months.
And, that May or June event is plenty of time to transition into your IM in October.
