    Hello everyone!

I’m 100% sure this has been asked before, but I cannot seem to find it on the forum.

I got my L1 marathon plan last week and I’m preparing to start the 18 weeks on Sunday (I’m pretty pumped!) I was noticing that initially, many runs are under an hour and are “easy” or in zone 2. In order for me to stay in zone 2, I have to go extremely slow… I’m talking 12:30 – 14 min/mi slow. Is this okay, or is there a specific distance that is expected in these runs?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Im doing HM and runs are not distance based (except for 1 or 2 at the end). It’s common to feel slow at the start, it’s part of the 8020 way – spend 80% at comfortable effort. It’s 18 weeks so plenty of time to improve speed.

If you are using HR consider using Pace.

Chip, a supplemental piece of advice, make sure you’ve setup your specific 80/20 zones per our document at https://www.8020endurance.com/understanding-trainingpeaks-workout-plan/

it could also be an issue where you’ve not setup your specific 80/20 zones and are still using the default TrainingPeaks zones.
