Hi all – I’m currently in about week 9 of the Ironman Level 2 plan. I did the CMI1 bike workout this morning on decently-rested legs. A recent bump in my FTP moved it from 245 to 260. I did this morning’s workout on Zwift in ERG mode.

While I completed the effort it was really, really hard. Just about wiped me out. Is that expected?

    I,

The CMI is reported by many athletes as the most challenging workout in our library. With this particular exercise, there is no shame in allowing yourself to stay near the bottom of Zone 3 for the 2×20, or at least start low and build slowly. If you target the upper end of the Zone 3 intervals, it will be very, very difficult. Same with the 1-minute intervals, you can stay on the low end.

The good news is that this workout is the most effective at increasing FTP.

Thanks! Zwift was picking the power and it’s right down the middle of each zone. Makes for a super hard workout.

    I appreciate your input.

Ah, yes. Zwift should have a “free” mode as opposed to the default “erg” mode, or at least you should have the ability to throttle where Zwift falls within the zone. If you an set it to “free” mode then you can freely choose your output within the zone.
