Today starts week 5 of my IM level 1 plan. Last year I was a first time IMer and went from Level 0 to 1 about this same time (week 5/6) and it was a good decision.

This year I started with Level 1 and am still hitting 100% of my workouts and feeling good and want to step up to Level 2 with the aim of stepping up my race results for IM Wisconsin in Sept.

It appears Level 2 has recovery weeks every 4 weeks every 3 weeks in Level 1. Should I step up AFTER my recovery week on level 1 which is week 6? Or do I move up into Level 2 when level 2 is on a rest week?

    Thanks
    Eric

I would make the change to the Level 2 plan in week 7 after a transition week in the Level 1 plan.

    Thanks Leyla.

So I would complete Level 1 week 6 which is recovery week, and then go into Level 2 week 8 which is also a recovery week in the higher level?

Since The Level 2 plan is a week longer, I would go from Lvl 1 week 6 to lvl 2 week 8?

Would it make sense to add a little extra volume to that level 2 recovery week to keep building?

    Thanks
    Eric

    ECap,

Once you finish Week 6, load the Level 2 plan with an end date of your event so you are immediately back in sync with the event. This means you might have two rest weeks in a row, or a rest, build rest pattern as you sync back up, but that’s just fine this early in the plan to go off-pattern as you switch from Level 1 to 2.
