I’m about to start the level 3 IM70.3 plan. Up to this point in my off season Ive been doing some long (3-4hr) easy bike rides that seem to be really beneficial to my strength and fitness. Should I continue these during the General phase of the plan (the longest rides, although hard, are 1.5-2hrs). Should I extend one of the other z2 scheduled rides?
If you have the time and keep the intensity low, there is no harm in adding in additional base miles in the off season. Main thing I would say is as long as you are enjoying them and not risking future burn out once you are into race specific volume then this extra cycling time can be beneficial.
