    Hello,

I just completed my first Ironman after following the 8020 level 2 Ironman plan. It went pretty great and I enjoyed it. I am a strong cyclist and a very weak swimmer. My run is fair, but still needs some work.

This triathlon “offseason” I was planning to focus on marathoning to try to improve my time and chase Boston. Being completely honest, I wanted to use a plan from Jack Daniels Running Formula. I bought the book before subscribing to 8020 and I’ve been looking forward to trying out his 2Q long run approach. Besides, it is my understanding that JD also follows an 8020, polarized formula.

Now on top of that, I was thinking of adding on the swim strong level 1 plan. However, I see that the swim strong strength sessions are focused on swimming (obviously), but since my primary goal is marathoning, should I just ignore those strength sessions in favor of a marathon strength plan?

    Any input is appreciated.

    Hi Dan,
As you are focused on running and a BQ I would suggest following a run specific strength program, and omitting the swim strong strength work- there is no harm however in keeping the mobility and stability sessions included in the first 8 weeks of the plan.

    Cheers
    Leyla
