question for the gurus out there,

I just started the half marathon 2 program. I really like it so far. However, I have noticed that when I run by heart rate, I go much slower than the suggested pace, which I suppose is derived from my recent half marathon. I am a little unusual in that my heart rate maximum is quite a bit higher than would be derived from my age (193 bpm, 43 years old).

So should I run by heart rate, or by the suggested pace?

    thanks so much!

OK, figured it out. By taking the average heart rate for my recent half marathon, and setting it as threshold HR, it updated the rate zones substantially. That looks a lot better, and now garmin can stop accusing me of detraining!

Actually, you should do the 20min field test which would give you both, the Lactate Threshold Pace and the peak 15min will give you your LTHR.
It‘s described in the resources section.

winoria is right. You’l want to test both your HR and Pace thresholds at the same time, then your HR and Pace will more closely align. It will never be perfectly aligned, but it will be much closer.
