Hi team, first time poster here.

I’m in week 7 of the 80/20 Ultra 50 KM Level 3 plan. Tomorrow I have the RSS18 (Steady State Run), and I’m curious about the plan. After 5 min in Z1 and 15 min in Z2, it has me in Zone X for 45 min. Is this a typo? I have read the book and thought Zone X was to be avoided.

    Thank you,
    Wade

For routine daily runs such as the foundation run, that is correct. For specific workouts such as this or the Marathon Pace run, it is acceptable.

While we don’t spend a lot of time in Zone X, there is a benefit to training there for short amount of times as it will help” build the bridge between extensive endurance (the ability to run far) with intensive endurance (the ability to run fast without fatiguing)” as stated in the workout description.

This pace should be a pace you can hold for 2 hours. Once you have completed that work, your remainder of the run in Zone 1 should feel very easy.

    Hope that helps!

I’m so sorry for the belated response! I missed the notifications.

I appreciate both of your responses. Indeed, Coach Anne, I later saw the description in the workout that gave more context. I missed that initially.

I actually really like running in Zone X and find it a comfortable marathon/1/2 marathon pace.

    Thank you!

Great! I’m glad you were able to find the details for more clarification!
