Running pace vs HR

I just started my Olympic triathlon program. I am using HR as the running metric but I’ve seen posts that say pace is better to use. The pace that my plan predicts I can run in a zone 2 HR is way off. It showed me at a 930 mile in zone 2 when it’s really a 1330 mile to maintain zone 2 for at least an hour. So should I be maintaining a higher running pace that would put me into the upper limits of zone 3 or stay closer to zone 2? I don’t want to continue to run close to the “X” zone though. Thanks!

    Thanks for using our plans!

I’m confident the missing piece is that you have not yet adjusted your Pace Zones in TP to be 80/20 zones, to TP is way off in the predicted pace. Be sure to review our document Understanding Your TrainingPeaks Structured Workout Plan and set your 80/20 Pace zones (not Default Pace, actual Run Pace) and that prediction will be much closer.

The predicted will still be off, as TP assumes you will run at 75% penetration into your zone, when in fact you could be at 1% penetration of the zone and still be following the plan precisely.

In fact, just ignore predicted pace in TP, it is not necessary nor helpful.
