I’m trying to choose which Strength Plan to go with my Ironman Level 1 program. I have more experience lifting than I do with Triathlon but I’d like to lift more focused on my sport.

The exercises listed in the examples of the Level 1, 2, and 3 plans are exactly the same – can you tell me how these three plans differ? I’ve looked all over this site and forums and I can’t find this answer.

Also, in the faq’s I saw this
“What are the differences between the Premium Strength Run and Triathlon plans?

A: The triathlon plans are programmed with a focus on exercises specific to cycling and swimming. There is also extra focus on core exercises for the different stability demands of triathlon.

I also have a Marathon this year – and I thought it was weird that the focus of the strength program for a triathlon doesn’t include running. Would you suggest I need both the running and the triathlon strength plan then?

Just in case it matters in my home gym I currently have a rogue rack and bench, landmine, barbells and plates, dumbells, some kettlebells, bands, Bosu ball, stability ball, TRX system, a rower, bike trainer, and treadmill.

Thanks for your help and clarification!

    A,

Thanks for posting this. The Strength plans (both free and Premium) are intended to be coupled with the same Level as the main companion plan. So, your Level 1 IM plan should be paired with the Level 1 strength plan.

Therefore, the Level of the strength plan does not reflect the difficulty of the strength plan, it reflects which main plan it is intended to be used with.

The strength plans are all the same difficulty, only difference is the length of the plan to match with the main training plan (we have plans of 9 weeks, 12, 15, 16, 18 19, 21, 22, and 23 weeks).

Regarding your comment on no running in the tri strength plans, the strength plans are also not intended to be used independently of a main plan. So, any running as part of the strength plan is represented in the main plan (did I understand this question correctly?).

    Hey David,

Thanks for your reply. My comment about the strength plan not including running was based on the faq I saw where it said that the focus of the strength plan for triathlon included exercises that are specific to support cycling and swimming and it didn’t mention running. I thought that was kind of odd. Here is the quote from your FAQ site again for reference.

“What are the differences between the Premium Strength Run and Triathlon plans?

A: The triathlon plans are programmed with a focus on exercises specific to cycling and swimming. There is also extra focus on core exercises for the different stability demands of triathlon. ”

Is that FAQ just worded weirdly implying that the exercises do not support running as well as cycling and swimming? or do you all recommend that we also add a running strength program. Does that clarify?

Thanks for the information on the levels – that makes a lot more sense now.

duh, I gotcha now. Whoever wrote that part of the FAQ (me) did a terrible job. In addition to run-specific exercises, there are also swim and cycling exercises in the tri strength plans.

I just re-wrote the FAQ to the following. Thank you for pointing this out!

Q: What are the differences between the Premium Strength Run and Triathlon plans?

A: In addition to run-specific exercises, the triathlon plans are also programmed with a focus on cycling and swimming. There is additional focus on core exercises for the different stability demands of triathlon.
