Gustav iden just won the Ironman world championships, adding to his IM70.3 world championships title. In fact he didn’t just win, he broke the course record. His training buddy Kristian Blummenveldt holds the ITU title, and came 3rd in Kona. There’s been a lot of hype around their training methods that include lots of lactate testing and double threshold sessions in a day, with lots of slow endurance workouts.

So is this 8020 with lactate testing every 5mins?

    Thanks

    HI Gareth,
Not to over simplify – but yes. Gustof and Kristin’s training approach appears to be based on intensity balance, and high volume. Now while that is working for them, I would suggest listening to Lionel Sanders post race interview, where he discussed trying to basically copy their training approach and falling behind in recovery. What he attributes to his lackluster performance this year.

Thanks Leyla – great video. There’s no way my body could cope with what they do, and I’m glad Lionel feels the same! Thx!
