    Hi Everyone,

I am curious what is your experience with TP Threshold Update notifications. I have followed the Level 2 50km plan and recently completed a 40k mountain race. After the race I got notification in Training Peaks that my Threshold Heart Rate (I understand the Lactate Rate) has improved to 175. Previously I considered it to be around 167. I read up on Training Peaks what their methodology is for the updates. Seems like if your average rate for an hour is higher that your current rate, the recommend updating it to the new high. I am puzzled though if this is a good approach or just some fancy feature not to bother with. Has any one used TP rate improvement notifications? Are they worthwhile? What is your experience? Thanks, Michal

    Hi There,
I don’t tend to use threshold changes from an event to update training thresholds (in particular HR zones). There are many factors during an event that will see your HR run higher than what you will see in training – excitability, adrenaline and caffeine to name a few. I prefer to carefully control any threshold changes by only adjusting them when a test has been planned and there are signs that the threshold needs to be changed to ensure the training is providing the appropriate efforts for fitness improvement.

Thanks a lot Leyla, indeed makes sense. I had a few caffeine shots back then which would definitely elevate HR. I will do a proper test in a while to see where the threshold is now
