Dog days of summer. Heat index is too high to run outdoors.

I can get a very good correlation between heart rate and pace (for zones 1&2) if I set the treadmill incline to 1%. I’ve also found treadmills to be effective for most 80/20 workouts excluding hill intervals.

But, I have noticed that treadmills appear to slow down over the course of a workout. I have no idea if the slowdown is because of my running dynamics (on Garmin) changing as I tire or if it is the result of the treadmill getting warm and possibly the belt slipping.

I recently changed gyms and I notice that the slowdown is universal.

I am curious to know if others on the forum have similar experiences and how they adapt 80/20 running to treadmills.

Charles, I’d like to hear from others as well on this one. I’m running this evening starting at 8:00 to beat the heat myself!

Your 1% incline observation is accurate to calibrate indoor to outdoor pace, 0.5% is a bit closer IMO.

Never heard of the warmed-up treadmill, but it makes some sense.
