Hi, I wanted to tell you about something that is happening to me.
I am doing the Marathon Level 3 plan and I adjust my FTP after each race in 10K, 15K or Half Marathon but the watts I do competing are much higher than the ones I reach training and therefore the days of series or high intensity training, I never reach the target zones and I always stay a little below. Is this normal?

    Hi Marce,

Personally I don’t recommend pulling threshold data from races other than when you are starting out. Racing can allow you to really dig deep due to excitability and “race bib” adrenaline. These thresholds aren’t necessary where you can train at, nor need to train at to continue with fitness improvements. I would recommend doing a field test in a similar environment and conditions to which you train and using that info to set your training zones, You can always analyse your racing against previous “racing” thresholds, but be training to a slightly lower threshold.

    Cheers
    Leyla
