Hello! I have a 100K coming up. I know there is a 100K plan, but because this race has a ton of vert, it will be slower, which means more time on my feet. I’m wondering if I should do a 100 MILE plan instead to account for the additional time on my feet.
There’s quite a large jump in mileage from a 100K to a 100 miler which could result in over training for the event you are racing.
As a coach, I look at it this way; you are training for the distance you are racing, no matter how long it may take you to complete the race. For example, I wouldn’t have a runner train for the marathon distance because they are a slower half marathon runner no matter what the terrain will be.
Elevation can certainly be taxing, therefore I would consider adding strength training in to your plan also.
