    Hi,
In one of my workouts it has an interval at CV, which is there defined as the fastest pace one can maintain for 30 minutes and it says is generally low zone 4. However, the LTP or LTHR instructions state to use a 20 minute trial to get these numbers but then they are defined in the zones as the top of zone 3. It seems these definitions are not consistent or I’m missing something.
    Thank you.

    G,

Remember, we’re just using a portion of the 20-minute protocol to find threshold, not the complete 20-minute test. It’s not apples to apples.

Additionally, we would ideally use a 60-minute TT to find threshold, which is the gold standard for finding threshold. It’s just not practical to a 60-minute TT every rest week. We used to even use 30 minutes, that was too much, so now we are down to a 20-minute functional test, in that it functions in place of the 60 minutes test.

So, the modified 20-minute test is a modified 60-minute test in order to improve test success. True CV is “generally” Zone 4 (close to high Zone 3).

    David
